The first practice is on Monday, November 16th, 2009.
Practices are normally held on Mondays and Wednesdays each week, and
are broken into two sessions.
The first session, Group #1,
will be for the less experienced wrestlers and will stress
fundamentals. This group will start out with wrestlers in
Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
The second session, Group #2, is aimed at
the more experienced wrestlers who can cover more advanced
techniques. This group will start out with wrestlers in 4th
through 6th grade.
There is an extra practice session on
some Thursdays for the Duals Team members.
All practice sessions are held in the High
School Wrestling Room unless otherwise noted.
Group 1: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Grades K - 3
Group 2: 7:15 PM - 8:30 PM, Grades 4 - 6
Wrestlers need to arrive 15 minutes early, and be ready for
practice before their session begins. This means that they
are fully dressed, had a drink of water, and have already visited the restroom.
Wrestlers also need to enter the school building through the
side door, and wait quietly in the hallway outside of the weight
room. They cannot be left to run around in the lobby area,
and interfere with other scheduled activities in the High School
Gym.
Only coaches and wrestlers stay in the wrestling room during
the practice sessions. Parents may observe the practice
from out in the lobby. The practices normally start with warm up exercises, and some
light jogging. The wrestlers then break into smaller
groups and are taught specific wrestling moves and techniques. They
then perform
drills with a partner to reinforce what they have learned. Towards the end of
practice, they perform "live" wrestling with other partners.
Sometimes they may play a fun game together as a group to close
the practice. Remember to
ask your wrestlers if they received any hand-outs or newsletters
at the end of practice. This is how the parents receive
most of the information about upcoming matches, fund raisers,
pictures, etc... You can check to see what was handed out
at each practice, by going to the News section of this website.
